If you actually hit him, then you take damage. If you use a touch spell and hit his touch AC, then you are actually hitting him.
My "no" response to hitting the touch AC was assuming the full question was "What if I make a normal attack, and roll high enough to hit his touch AC but not to hit his normal AC?"
