Hey everyone! And welcome to a review of the Resident Evil 3 Remake entry/188957 Cutie1Plus entry/243697 figure set made by Prime 1 Studio entry/51611 . This specific set contains the following three figures:
1) Nemesis T-Gata item/1387137
2) Jill Valentine item/1387138
3) Licker item/1387139
Initally I had planned to make these pictures part of a loot blog, but when I noticed that I had quite a lot to talk about, I decided to give it it's own review.
What is Cutie1Plus?
Cutie1Plus is Prime 1 Studio their offering on designer toys. The style recreates plushies, with the figure designs having button eyes, zippers, yarn hair, sewn joints and stitches on the places where you would expect a plushie to also be sewn together.
Overall, a lot of people don't really seem to like these figures, comparing them to Funko Pops and the like. They also retail for quite high prices, with the ones in the Plus line (bigger sized) being around $50 each and the regular line $35.
How and why I got these figures
So yeah, reading above... "Maakie why did you get these??" Well, whenever you order from Prime1 you get reward points for a new order. I ordered their huge and expensive Dorohedoro statue item/1356470 causing me to rack up a lot of points. However, these points expire in some time and as I wasn't planning on getting any other big statues soon, I decided to use the points for a huge discount on the Resident Evil 3 Remake Cutie1Plus set. "But Maakie, why do you even want these???" Well, there is a lack of good RE figures and I thought the style was kind of cute. I would not get them for full price, but with more than half off, let's see what these 'more luxurious Funko Pops' are about!
Note before starting this review
An important note before starting this review: these figures are from the Cutie1 PLUS line, meaning they are a bigger sized and possibly also higher quality than the regular Cutie1 figures that are more commonly available.
Boxes

As I ordered from the Prime 1 store directly, the figures came packed and shipped in the original brown box. Most resellers seem to split the set up for selling, so you probably won't see this box when ordering from them.

The packing and protection is a bit minimal, but with the cardboard of the brown box being very sturdy, it arrived to me safely.

The box design is pretty cute! The window is in a 'plus' shape.

The boxes are easily stackable and come with a good view of the figure inside. I expect them to be designed with the intention that toy collectors can keep them in box while on display.
Let's unbox them and look at the figures one by one:
Jill Valentine

Cute, but kind of generic box design.

A well sized blister to keep her safe.

When I unpacked the base I was confused at first. There are 7 holes and 5 option parts and you can assemble the base to your own liking. You can put the the peg in the middle or on the edge, and up to you if you want the name of the manufacturer or the line to be mentioned on the base as well.

This is the base set-up I went with and I would try to recreate a similar one for the others in this set.
Now onto the figure herself, first impression: Pretty cute! It shows Jill's personality well even in this chibi and stylized form. The painting is very simple, but applied well.

Some of the gaps are a bit big, such as the one on her right arm. The back of my copy of Jill also has some paint splatter.

The look of the gun and the way Jill holds it is pretty funny to me!
Nemesis T-Gata

I like his little shark teeth!

His bendy arm with the big hand is also funny.

The bazooka unfortunately has a huge seamline going on through the middle of it.
I do like how the stitches on his head and the skin folds look from the backside.

The paint application on Nemesis is quite clean, I didn't see any defects.
Licker

And now for the last one in the set: Licker! One of my favorite enemy designs in the game. His painting is a lot more complicated than the other 2 in the set, which is why some of the paint is less within the lines.

Something I forgot to show in the pictures of the other 2, is that the attached zipper it's grip part can be moved around. Otherwise all zipper and connection points don't move.

Licker is the only dynamic one of this set. With the bases being a 'one fits all' type, that means for this specific design that some of his areas will always stick outside of the base.

I really like from the design of the Licker that the mouth is a zipper. Seems to make more sense than most of the others having the zipper in their hair.

To add to the 'gore', there is also some sewn thread going over the zipper.
All together now!

It's a pretty fun set to display together. The hexagon bases also makes them easily displayable next to eachother.

I have tried with mine to have their bases set up similarly, with the top left having their peg and the middle part the one where the non-pegged foot rests. Licker is an exception where his peg is at his crotch-area. I dislike how there will always be parts of him 'floating' unless you grab hexagons from other figures in this set and add them to his base. I also would have liked it if all of them came with 3 additional blank hexagons so that you would not see any empty spots on the base.

Something to note is also that all of them feel very sturdy. Being one big piece and fitting well into the pegs.

The Points
Positive
+ Cutie1's are fun collectible sets sorted by franchise. If you buy a set, you have the main character(s) and main enemy/enemies all together and ready to display.
+ If you want something not as big or expensive as a scaled figure, but not as small as trading figures or Nendoroids, these can be a good alternative.
+ Sturdy item, I feel like you can drop these and they will be fine.
Neutral
+/- Not the highest quality.
+/- The very specific 'plushie' art style might not be to everyone's liking.
+/- Definitely more a 'toy' than a 'figure'.
Negative
- Way too expensive for what you get at full retail price.
The Scores
Sculpting 7/10
Interesting art style with details in logical places. No stand-out points.
Painting 7/10
Overall clean painting, but also nothing that stands out here. My specific copy of Jill has some paint errors at the back, this will vary on each copy.
Posing 7/10
All of them are posed very much in-character, but none of their poses wow-ed me enough to give it higher than a 7/10.
Base 5/10
I really don't like these customizable bases. I get the idea behind them, but wish they came with filler hexagons so that there are no gaps.
Packaging 7/10
A bit generic packaging, but looks good enough to also display them inside the box.
Enjoyment 7/10
I quite enjoy these figues, but nothing about them wow-ed me or convinced me I want more Cutie1 (Plus) figures unless heavily discounted.
Conclusion
To fully enjoy these you either need to be really into the franchise the figures are from and/or be into the plush art style and/or need to be into designer toys rather than collectible figures mostly covered on this website.
I think they are priced too high, but I also know that a lot of designer toys run for higher prices than what we anime figure collectors would see as acceptable for size and quality.
Availability
When Prime1 makes these sets, they come in stock on their official website www.prime1studi... . The speed in which these sell out seem to differ a lot with each release. Some of them staying in stock for months and others selling out fast. Sometimes resellers also get these, and the amount of time they stay in stock is also random there. I rarely see these items go on discount and I also have not seen any re-releases of them yet. So it seems like Prime 1 just makes one batch and watches them slowly sell out.
And to finish it!
Here is how they are displayed on my main Resident Evil collection shelf:

This shelf is getting quite full! But there is still space to squeeze item/1876983 in there later!
For those who read all this way, thank you! My next blog I try to have up in a week will be a loot blog!
